Porextherm - Advanced thermal insulation
Porextherm is one of the world-wide leading suppliers of micro porous high performance insulation materials. Porextherm fumed silica based products are brand-named Vacupor® and WDS®. These are state-of-the-art in their dedicated temperature ranges:
- Vacupor® has a range of -50 °C to 80 °C
- WDS® has a range of 500 °C to 1200 °C
Architectural applications will use Vacupor®
Create Space – Save Energy
Outstanding insulation properties enable customers to save substantial amounts of energy, while the insulation product occupies significantly less space than conventional systems. Porextherm products are successfully used in numerous sectors where high thermal performance and the thickness of the materials applied are important:
- aerospace
- automotive
- logistics and tank containers
- manufacturing industry
- industrial piping
- temperature controlled packaging
- building and construction products
- domestic appliances
- fuel cells
Porextherm offer a broad portfolio of innovative products. The list of application sectors is growing.
Porextherm – Innovation by tradition
Since the company was founded in 1989, Porextherm has continuously extended its competence and experience within the field of micro porous high performance insulation materials.
Porextherm has a state-of-the-art, high capacity production facility in Kempten, Germany. This enables the company to supply the strongly growing domestic and international markets.
Innovative thermal insulation continues to gain importance, and not only to reduce energy consumption and minimise the impact of rising energy costs. New technologies with specific insulation requirements increasingly demand tailor-made solutions in the low- and high-temperature ranges. In other applications where the temperature range may not be as extreme, such as construction, space is critical and service life is important. Handling must be simple, with robust products, and at the same time not pose a health risk.
Importantly too thermal insulation materials must be available as standardized preformed elements as well as manufactured to order for individual applications.
Porextherm's Research & Development department works with the Engineering department, to offer solutions that perfectly meet these demanding requirements. In close cooperation with their customers, Porextherm staff design and develop innovative and unique insulation products that are suitable for integration in serial production processes. Architectural applications may be for the construction product market, or for individual projects.
Vacupor® – a clear advantage in thermal insulation
In most cases, when it comes to achieving the most efficient thermal insulation in the tightest spaces, Vacupor® Vacuum Insulation Panels are the product of choice.
Easy to use, Vacupor® is successfully and efficiently used in a wide variety of applications.
The encapsulated fibre-filaments, which support the three-dimensional fumed-silica structure, become pressure resistant and self supporting. Therefore, additional sheathing to improve mechanical stability is usually not required.
Porextherm is able to offer Vacupor®, according to particular insulation requirements, in various shapes, sizes and coverings with different protection layers. There is continual development of this outstanding insulation material to find better solutions for new applications.
In response to changes in laws and regulations, but also for energy-saving reasons, Vacupor® is gaining acceptance in many industrial applications. Porextherm is often asked to replace the fibre and foam insulation materials that are less costly, but also less efficient at ambient air pressure.
Vacupor® combines the properties of a micro porous insulation material with the advantages of vacuum insulation technology. In this way, an extremely low thermal conductivity of 0.005 W/mK is achieved. Vacupor® can be used in the temperature range between -50°C and 80°C, and a higher density product performs up to 120°C where greater fire protection is needed. Vacupor® is available as standard in several forms for particular applications:
1. Construction applications
The building authorities approved Vacuum Insulation Panel is Vacupor® NT-B2. This product is authorized by the German Institut for Civil Engineering (DIBT).
2. Rubber protected
For protection purposes Vacupor® RP is covered on one or both sides of the panel with a sheet of rubber granule.
3. Polystyrene protected
Suitable for wall linings and for an underlay to flooring Vacupor® PS is covered with polystyrene sheets on both sides. The adhesive fixing of the insulation is made easier by the protective sheeting.
4. Higher density for fire protected applications
A silicate fiber-filament in combination with a higher density is encapsulated in Vacupor® FP to provide continued thermal insulation performance at higher temperatures.
Details of tests and certification for all these product variations in the Vacupor® range are available from the Porextherm website - www.porextherm.com. The core material is produced without any emissions, is not flammable, and usually does not contain any organic components which may set free harmful decomposition products when exposed to heat. According to industrial hygiene experts, does not pose any health hazard. As defined by the World Health Organisation, the silicate filaments used for mechanical reinforcement are also not absorbable by the lungs.
Vacupor® can be recycled, and products with complex shapes can be manufactured. Specially shaped components are the ideal solution when it comes to efficient thermal insulation in the tightest spaces and under the most difficult conditions.
This all makes Vacupor® an ideal insulation material from every point of view. To find out how Porextherm can satisfy your requirements please contact:
