The Royal Institution www.rigb.org is a prestigious British venue that has been completely refurbished in 2007, with a £20-million design by Sir Terry Farrell. Research has been part of the RI for 200 years. Founded in 1799, the RI quickly built a reputation for excellent lectures and brilliant science, being the home to 14 Nobel Prize winners, and the place where 10 chemical elements were discovered.

The most famous Royal Institution scientist is probably Michael Faraday, whose theory of electromagnetism drives much of the modern world. James Dewar is of particular interest to those concerned with temperature and vacuum science.

The Faraday Lecture Theatre is particularly comfortable, and a space perfectly arranged for speakers to communicate, demonstrate and discuss an argument. The theatre is where the RI hosts its televised and popular series of Christmas Lectures. It is well known and liked as a venue.
