The overall aim of the project was to compile and analyse responses from stakeholders to the Environment Agency’s consultation paper on certain aspects of the implementation of the EC Water Framework Directive, which derive from the technical Annexes to the Directive (Annexes II and V).
Responses were received from a great range of stakeholders (water industry companies and other industrial interests, government and statutory bodies, NGOs and interest groups and academics).
The responses to the Consultation Paper were processed by Atkins Water using a purpose-built application, from which the response database was populated. By using a series of queries, the database was then interrogated to retrieve text material for the analysis on which the consultation report was based.
Responses to the paper concerned a series of 13 Guiding principles and associated questions, upon which stakeholders commented in detail. The Guiding Principles relate to the identification and typology of water bodies, reference conditions for those water bodies, the issue of “good ecological status” for ground and surface water, the risk assessment process and monitoring of water bodies.
